Derek, is a Navy SEAL and Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator of Alpha Team, and is referred to as A2, or Alpha 2.
Early Life[]
Derek's team was hit with an RPG in Diyala Province, October 14, 2010, where he was left with major scars on his left arm.
Throughout The Series []
Clay Spenser and Stella Baxter move into an apartment together beside Derek and his wife, Trish.
Derek and Scott Carter accompany Bravo Team into the target house in Yemen. Derek is mainly tasked with watching various members of the family who live in the house.
Derek and the rest of Alpha Team assist Bravo Team in an assault on Mussa Ghani's mountain safe house.
Derek and Alpha Team assist Bravo Team in the assault on people trafficker Jamal Mazharri's prison compound.
Derek, Scott, and Franklin are designated drivers for the convoy of Politicians, Bravo Team and Afghan Police. Derek can be seen guarding the Politicians when they enter the hospital and also helps evacuate them when they respond to a threat.
Derek assists Bravo Team in the capture of Hamid Baldur. When Jason Hayes tackles Baldur Clay Spenser and Derek eventually grab his arms and Derek cable ties them.
Derek and the rest of Alpha Team assist Bravo Team in the capture of Nouri Halani, from a village AK (Ayub Kheyl) along the Pakistan/ Afghanistan border. Derek is seen picking a door lock to get into the enemies compound within the village and also using a breaching charge to gain access to an inner door. Derek is on-board the Huey which is hit by an enemy SAM at the end of the episode.
Derek along with half of Alpha Team and half of Bravo Team fortify an old farmhouse and await EXFIL after their chopper crashed following a SAM hit. Derek is seen providing medical aid to an injured member of Alpha Team and also defending the farmhouse from enemy forces. He tells Clay Spenser to retrieve an 'A bag' from the downed Huey, which is filled with ammo, that helps in the defence of the farmhouse. Later he assists Clay Spenser and Scott Carter (Full Metal) in the destruction of the SAM, which took down their Huey. He EXFIL's with the other survivors once the SAM has been destroyed.

- It has yet to be confirmed if he is, (like Ray Perry) a Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator but it is presumed, since he is the second-in-charge (2IC) of Alpha Team. His arm badge depicts the same (2A9).

- The actor who plays him, Dan Briggs is also Max Thieriot's (Clay Spenser) stunt double.
